- Fans of the 17HMR lets hear some stories......
I recently got a 17 HMR in the Savage 93 walmart style, added a BSA 8-32x contender and a 9-13'' bi-pod. It shoots tiny groups at 100yds and is a real threat to any thing I point it at. I want to hear how other people like or hate the rounds preformance, fire away....
- Easy Ed of Iggle Crik
Easy Ed of Iggle Crik Easy Ed is an old compadre of mine, another local retired LEO. He lives in a little wide-spot village on one of the highways into the Cascade Mountains, about a half-hour southeast of me. He's a gunny (OR State championship rifle team, '63), specializing in varminting, and in THAT persuasion, specializing in wiping out the rancher's nemesis, the Sage Rat. Lately, he's a HUGE fan of the micro-sniper 17HMR catridge, which he is FOREVER on my case about adopting. I keep tel
- Remington 597 Heavy Barrel Target/Varmint Rifle
August 11, 2008 Remington 597 22 Rifle with heavy barrel and laminate stock The Marlin model 7000 I recently purchased is a fine 22 rifle but I believe that today I purchased the best 22 semi-auto rifle on the market today. This Remington model 597 with the heavy varmint barrel and a brown laminate stock is not only a beautiful rifle but a very well thought out design. The design lends itself to exceptional accuracy at longer ranges. The stock is a common design usually found on larger cal
- Another hunt ruined by non-hunters
Fantastic! After a year of searching, I finally located a cluster of woodchuck holes so I quickly took a seat under a tree to see if something surfaces. After sitting 20 minutes in absolute silence, I head a motorcycle in the parking area revving its engine. "Great" I thought. That's all I need. Some inconsiderate @#!* scaring the game into hiding. For the next five minutes I could hear someone riding a dirt bike through the grassy fields that run perpendicular to the parking area, which happen
- A Sweaty Hunt
Last Saturday evening, with the temperature still hovering around 95, I snuck into one of my deer blinds just to see what I could see. Packing my trusty .17 HMR, I was looking for a stray predator, but with a full moon and the temperature, my chances of seeing anything were slim. In the picture, notice how green and lush the cover looks, but in reality, our area is locked in a severe drought! There was a nice breeze, but my ghillie coat was blocking most of it, and the sweat was pouring of
- First chuck with my Henry 17HMR
Nailed my first chuck with my Henry 17HMR. One shot with iron sights at about 40 yards. See the video, photos and story on the 2008 Hunting page. Congratulations, and thank you for sharing. Hope all is well. We are in final stages of moving our factory to Bayonne New Jersey. He said that Henry Repeating is moving into a 109,000sf facility
- My First Chuck of 2008
Thanks Mike for the 'Good Luck' before heading out to the WMA after work. Today was absolutely beautiful with a clear blue sky and temperatures in the 70s with no humidity. As the afternoon went on, I could feel it starting to heat up and by the time I was out of work, it was near 90. Man, after getting a shot at that chuck Saturday, I've been just itch'n to get out there again. As soon as work was over today, I changed, jumped into the Jeep and headed for the woods. When I got there I saw

- What is a good long range scope for a 17hmr?
dcmike22 asked: I've got a Savage 17, put a bsa scope on it 6-18x40, terrible scope, blurs big time. Need a good cheap one with good zoom. have a great little tasco on my 22, real cheap, but clear. not enough zoom though. need to be a good one for about 150. ok little extra, I do need a scope with higher zoom, over nine, what we are hunting are very hard to see and you need very precise shots, especially with the price of 17 ammo. I don't feel like throwing away a quarter every time i miss
This week I was in Wyoming shooting prairie dogs. I was there with my Dad, and some members of our industry. It was sunny and hot - a great day of shooting! This is the second time I have done this - and it may sound morbid and cruel to the non-shooters reading this; but, all I can really say is that it is a total blast! I won't get into the specifics, but if you want more detail, just ask! I'd be happy to tell you a story or two of how our group single-handedly saved the Casper community
